In small claim court the complainant and the defendant represent issues and themselves in front of the judge. This type represents is known as “In proper person or Pro se”. Generally, parties represent themselves. However, parties can hire an attorney/lawyer to fight in court on behalf of the party. 

Small claims lawyers generally assist in cases including:-

  • Disagreement involving money
  • Violation of any legal contract
  • Personal injury 
  • Intentional harm or suspecting of harming
  • Violation of rules or promises 
  • Collection on debts
  • Evictions
  • Violation of Elder laws 
  • Fight between landlord and tenants

In the US it varies from state to state, whether you are able to hire a lawyer in small claims or not. In many states, lawyers are not allowed to represent small claims in court. 

However, if you belong to a state where lawyers are permitted to represent small claims. Then it is recommended to hire a lawyer. The lawyer will assist you with legal information and other paperwork. 

If you are not allowed to hire a small claims lawyer then you can hire him/her personally. Where they will help you outside the courtroom. And it is a greate way to present your issue in front of the judge.
