Lawforpublic is used by thousands of people every month for legal information. Your writing helps real people understand their legal rights and make more informed choices. We value straightforward advice and practical legal information from writers.
The reason we can trust our community is that we publish articles by real lawyers and people in other professions. Your articles are read by people who really want to learn about their legal rights, court processes, and how the law works. We give credit to our writers and build their reputation within the legal writing community.
We recruit authors to join our team of law enthusiasts. We edit, provide feedback, and promote our writers and their articles through our website and social media channels. You can help others understand the legal system and use it.
What We’re Looking For?
Lawforpublic is a practical legal information site that helps our readers understand their rights and solve their problems. We seek writers able to break down hard law subjects in clear words that anyone understands.
Topics We Love
We want articles about the basics of laws which people deal with most directly within their everyday lives, such as the law regarding family, the law regarding employment, the law regarding landlord and tenant, plus criminal law. Civil law cases exist. They include small claims court, traffic tickets, contracts, and consumer protection.
Civil rights issues are important to readers. You can consider covering workplace discrimination as well as police encounters. Also consider covering free speech in addition to voting rights. And offer ways people can take action or find assistance.
Lawforpublic needs information about new laws, new court decisions, new documents to file, when to appear in court, and when to get the assistance of an attorney, and we will write on those topics. Make sure to support your assertions and statements.
Content Types Accepted
In addition to how-tos, legal explainers, step-by-step tutorials, and education articles, our audience responds well to listicles such as “10 Things to Know About Small Claims Court.” We accept beginner advice and tips, or advice for advanced users, depending on your expertise level.
Legal process guides describe in detail how to fill out forms, where to file them, and what the next steps are. Guides with state-specific information on local court processes have the highest Lawforpublic response.
Tell people what you learned through your own experience with the law and the legal system. Divorce, a traffic ticket, a fight beside a landlord, whatever it is. If you are going to share, just be clear about that it’s your experience.
Submission Guidelines
Lawforpublic has a few simple guidelines that can help you write content that readers will want to read. Follow them and you are more likely to have your content published.
Writing Style
You may ask for permission to appeal the lower court’s decision if you can show there is a good chance the decision was wrong. Keep paragraphs brief at two or three sentences.
Be direct and honest about what people can do on their own and when a lawyer is necessary. Lawforpublic readers want straightforward answers, not legalese. Because these notices are generally filed within the court where the action is pending, they are not always; they carry filing fees and deadlines.
This is not legal advice since laws differ by location. Check local law, plus consult with local legal professionals. Above all else, we want to help people.
Formatting Requirements
Use headings to break up your content into easy sections
Use bullets for lists or steps in a process. Link (including to .gov) only when it adds value, and not excessively.
Articles have to be between 800 and 2000 words. They should be 3 to 5 subheadings in length. Lawforpublic recommends short paragraphs and plenty of white space.
We prefer articles in Google Docs or Word document format. Please also suggest any images or diagrams. While we do final editing, having a clear structure helps us do our work.
What You Get in Return?
We will credit you with a byline, bio, and link to your website or social media. We have different pay scales for legal guides and rights explanations than for news summaries.
All authors have a bio and a link to their website or social media. Popular articles are promoted on Lawforpublic’s social media accounts, attributing credit to authors. Writing for us can build your portfolio for other writing jobs.
Your writing will be clearer, but your voice will remain. You’ll learn the art and technique of legal writing from our editors and their advice and suggestions.
How to Submit?
You can email article ideas in a short email message with 2-3 sentences on what you want to write about. This saves you and us time, and helps ensure we want your topic.
Email your pitch or completed draft to: admin@lawforpublic.com
Write “Guest Post Submission – [Your Topic]” in your subject line.
Please share your legal background and any legal writing samples. Also, describe the reasons why you are the right person to cover this topic.
