What Is Criminal Law?

Criminal law

Criminal Law refers to a body of rules and regulations that actively apply to criminal acts. It also defines the offenses that get made against the set rules of society. This is an active law that regulates how the different suspects are apprehended, charged, and then tried. It works in establishing punishments for the different convicted offenders.

Types Of Criminal Law

There are a lot of different types of Criminal Law that are available out there. Some of the more common ones out there are:

  • Battery and Assault
  • Robbery
  • Drug Possession
  • Homicide
  • Misdemeanor
  • Arson
  • Felony
  • Burglary
  • Theft

What Is Defined As A Crime Then?

The Penal Code does not define anywhere truly of what a crime is. A Crime could refer to an act of omission or commission. Contrary to the law, that actively tends to the prejudice of a community, for which ‘punishment’ is to be inflicted as a result of all the judicial proceedings that are taken in the name of a State.

When an individual commits some wrong, they are said to be liable for it. Criminal liability only arises when a person commits a criminal act.

A Criminal Offense is only considered to be “committed” when an act that is forbidden by the law gets done by someone voluntarily.
